Planning meetings are held every fortnight on a Tuesday commencing at 5.30 pm in the Council Chamber at the Town Hall, Petersfield. For dates of meetings see table below.
Town Councillors are very aware that their input into the planning system is very important for the local community. Town (and Parish) Councils have a legal right to be consulted on planning applications and to express their views to the planning authority (East Hampshire District Council). Whilst the planning authority doesn’t have to agree, it must consider the Town Council view.
The Town Council’s recommendations on a planning application must fit with the planning authority’s local plan and the planning authority must, by law, be guided by its own Local Plan.
Some decisions of East Hampshire District Council (the local planning authority) are made by their planning committee, while many are delegated to Officers.
The Town Council is consulted on two of the most important policies for planning: the Local Plan (produced by East Hampshire District Council) and the Structure Plan (produced by Hampshire County Council). These two documents form the basis for planning in the area so the local knowledge of Town and Parish Councils in the area is very important.
You are very welcome to attend any meetings of the Planning committee. Members of the public are invited to make statements on any planning application appearing on the agenda with a time limit of 3 minutes for and/or 3 minutes against an application. Only one statement for or against an application will be permitted.
If you have any questions relating to planning please contact Ginnie Rutter, who is the planning secretary to the committee.
