Petersfield Festival Hall,
The Festival Hall,

I would like to invite you to attend one of two meetings to discuss a Climate Strategy for Petersfield and to consider whether there is scope to create a Petersfield Climate Action Network (PeCAN). Could I ask you to forward on this message to anyone you think might be interested to attend please? We want as many people as possible…we have organised one daytime meeting and one evening meeting to maximise attendance!

The meetings are to be held as follows:

10.00 – 12.00 noon on Monday 10th February – in the Rose Room, Petersfield Festival Hall

7.00pm – 9.00pm on Monday 24th February – in the Council Chambers, Petersfield Town Hall

These meetings are being organised and facilitated by Petersfield Town Council following a meeting of the Town Development Committee on 10 January 2020 at which several members of the community made passionate representations about the need for joint climate action in our town. There follows here the invitation from Petersfield Town Council:

“Petersfield Town Council is creating a Climate Emergency Strategy which will lead to a Climate Emergency Plan.  To make this happen, we will need to work with members of the community and local community groups.  There are also several local individuals with relevant skills who may be able to help.  There is much we could do, but we want to make sure that this strategy is as focused and effective as possible.

“We would therefore like your help in putting the strategy together.  We need to understand what resources are available in our town, and how much help people are prepared to give in order to shape our aspirations. We are holding two public meetings, one during the day, one in the evening, to engage with the community and hear what you have to say.  If you have some ideas, or you are willing to help, then please come along.”

I am sure you will agree that it is great that our Town Councillors are initiating this strategy. I believe that we have an enormous amount of enthusiasm within the community here in Petersfield. If we can successfully tap into that and work together effectively I believe we can transform our town into a pioneer for urban decarbonisation and perhaps inspire other towns to follow us on the road to “Net Zero”.

I do hope you will be able to attend one of the meetings and I look forward to seeing you there.

Kind Regards,

Russell Oppenheimer

District Councillor
