Heath Toilets Refurbishment Project
The Heath Toilets Are Officially Re-Opened!
On Friday, 19th September, the Deputy Town Mayor, Cllr J Matthews, officially re-opened the newly refurbished Heath Toilets. Following the ribbon-cutting, several members of the public were able to use the facilities and shared wonderful feedback, praising the modern upgrades and thoughtful improvements.
These toilets have been thoughtfully modernised with sustainability and accessibility in mind:
- Rainwater flushing systems to conserve water
- Push taps designed to minimize water usage
- Solar panels providing clean, renewable energy throughout the day
The re-opening included the men’s, ladies’, unisex, and disabled toilets, with just one facility left to launch—the brand new adult changing places—coming soon.
While the project took a bit longer than initially anticipated, we are proud to report that the entire refurbishment has come in on budget at £255,196.00.
Heath Toilets Refurbishment Project Background
Project Start Date: Mid-March 2025
The refurbishment of the Heath Toilets is well underway, having begun in mid-March with the closure of the main facilities and the commencement of major internal works. This essential upgrade includes the demolition of internal walls and the thoughtful redesign of the layout to better serve the needs of our community and visitors.
A key feature of the refurbishment is the extension of the former disabled toilet space. This area is being transformed into a modern adult changing room with an adjoining storage area. The storage section will house a new rainwater harvesting system, which will collect and reuse rainwater for eco-friendly toilet flushing and irrigation of nearby plants and shrubbery—helping us reduce water consumption and support local biodiversity.
As part of our commitment to sustainability, the new facility will also include:
- Solar panels to generate renewable electricity for daytime use, reducing our reliance on the grid and lowering operational costs.
- Sensor-activated taps to minimise water waste and improve hygiene.
- Energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the building to cut down on energy usage.
In terms of facilities, the refurbished toilets will include:
- A dedicated ladies’ toilet area
- Men’s urinals
- Multiple unisex cubicles for inclusive and flexible use by all visitors
To ensure continued access to basic amenities during the refurbishment period, we have installed temporary porta-loos on site. While we understand these may not offer the same level of comfort as permanent facilities, we hope they provide adequate support so visitors can continue enjoying the Heath and Pond without disruption.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to deliver a cleaner, greener, and more accessible toilet facility for everyone.
