Petersfield in Bloom Patron - Alan Titchmarsh MBE DL

'It's a proven fact that being surrounded by plants and flowers is good for our health. It also improves our outlook no end. Petersfield in Bloom is a brilliant example of just how much our surroundings can be enhanced by growing things and I congratulate the town on its understanding of the value of such a cheerful initiative.'

Petersfield in Bloom Vice President - Steve Amos

Having been brought up in North Wales on a small holding where gardening was an essential part of daily life as we were pretty much self sufficient, I took a break by joining the Army and 13 years ago got back into it by getting an allotment on the newly formed Adhurst Estate Allotments near Sheet, 13 years on and I am well and truly hooked, competing in flower and vegetable shows across the local region, writing for the petersfield post and more recently hosting the podcast "Growing Together" for Shine Radio. I am passionate about gardening and getting people involved in growing your own, whether that be veg or flowers it's all great to be involved in. Scientifically proven to be great for your mental health surrounding yourself in green space is something I'd like to help encourage the people of Petersfield to be even more involved in. PIB is a great initiative and I am looking forward to seeing how I can help promote the over the coming years.

Now in its second year, the Petersfield Seed Swap has grown into a much-anticipated community event funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.   Whether to grow flowers for a cutting garden, venture into the benefits of home-grown vegetables, enjoy nurturing herbs and sampling salad or a combination of all growing possibilities, the Seed Swap will provide the opportunity to swap a variety of seeds, as well as try something new, for the coming growing year.

Organised by the Growing Together gardening podcast along with Petersfield’s Shine Radio, the event took place on  Sat 9 March at Winton House on the High Street.

As well as swapping seeds and seedlings, visitors met fellow gardeners, gained advice from local gardening organisations and attend gardening workshops too.
