This land was originally owned by The Townsend Family and was given to The Town Council as a trust in 1945 on condition that the land be used as an open space under the said Recreation Grounds Act of 1859 and that no buildings were to be erected on this land. This area is therefore owned and maintained by The Town Council as trustees.

This area can be enjoyed by anyone wishing to go for a short walk or just enjoy the view.
